Rocco wore an ‘Africa Is The Future’ T-shirt at last year’s rocking Djoon Experience ADE shindig. That ‘tee’ said it all – soulfully-assured Paris club and label Djoon at the heart of South Africa’s exciting house music revolution and its Amsterdam party following beautiful, pioneering suit….
Expect more of the same next month, as Djoon brings its wholly unique flavour back to the Netherlands for another heavy dose of chic, deep afro and soul-house. The Djoon Experience 2011 party lands at Jimmy Woo’s on October 19, supported by a wealth of immense DJing talent – the kind of line-up that only the Amsterdam Dance Event (October 19-22), now one of clubland’s biggest electronic music conferences, can conjure.
Afro-dance stalwart Black Coffee makes his Dutch debut, representing the cult Soulistic imprint he founded six years ago in homeland South Africa, and brings along close Soulistic associate Culoe De Song – both promise innovative, insanely energetic sets with rulebook-rewriting swagger. Real Tone Records favourite Rocco (AKA Rodamaal) returns to deep Djoon action, as does well-matched label mate Manoo – two of France’s hottest jocks. Swish locals Leroy Styles and RiskSoundSystem, and revered Djoon owner Afshin complete the picture. It is a recipe for complete and utter dancefloor seduction.
Djoon’s big ADE get-together, co-hosted by Real Tone, Soulistic, Styles’ popular Dutch house night Afrazoo and Rotterdam-based promoter The Real World, follows the September release of deep, afro-soaked house lick Catalina on its fledgling Djoon Experience label. Catalina has been delighting clubs all over the world; drum-for-drum a perfect distillation of Djoon’s intense, magical, spiritual atmosphere.
That sublime vibe is speedily now en route to Amsterdam. Uniting inspirational artists of the now, and of the future, Djoon’s savvy, sophisticated ‘soiree’ screams standout in every way. The buzz is building nicely and clubland is taking note; heart ‘n’ soul, Djoon and friends are ready to play….
