Marijus Adomaitis' career has taken many different forms, but as TEN WALLS he's been more creative than ever. There's an idea that musical theory inhibits creativity in dance music, imposing rules in artists' minds where they need not exist. Sure, an experienced pianist might struggle to adopt the melodic restraint that techno requires, but it's a flimsy notion to apply wholesale, especially when you consider the work of someone like Marijus Adomaitis. Adomaitis grew up in Lithuania in a family of musicians, his father and brother both violinists. Adomaitis chose bassoon, and played throughout high school. Classical music and jazz were a constant in the house. He later attended music college, and wound up taking on what he describes as "projects," i.e. working as a producer for other artists. When Adomaitis eventually released his own music, it was his background as a musician that defined his club tracks. Ten Walls is probably the best manifestation of Adomaitis's past experiences. His arrangements are rich and full of instrumentation, and with tracks like "Gotham," "Walking With Elephants" and "Requiem," he realised the bassoon's unlikely dance floor potential.
