Nishe is a Rotterdam-based soul singer who established her name in 2006 as frontwoman of Nu-Soul act Jagged Soul with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album “Come To Meâ€, released by Coast to Coast. With Jagged Soul Nishe played stages like North Sea Jazz, World Port Jazz, Rotterdam Import, Popkomm, Amsterdam Dance Event and Eurosonic. Jagged Soul won the Diesel-U-Music Award (urban category).
After Jagged Soul Nishe focused on co-writing and recording as a featured artist (under the name Sitzka) for record-label Jalapeno (U.K London) (Dr. Rubberfunk and Soopasoul). Now she is taking a new direction with her first solo album †The New Me †which will be released 9 February 2014 in Bird (Rotterdam).
The album “The New Me†is a very personal story, which Nishe uses to process the tough and violent period that now lies behind her, in an attempt to let go and find peace of mind, while in the same time using it as the launch to a new start. “The New Meâ€, also the title track of the album with good reason, for it is the “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger†mentality so clearly heard hear, that runs like a red thread through the album. Often very powerful, even more so because of the vulnerability that always shines through. Feminine, tough and honest, trying to reconcile with the sometimes harsh reality, but always from a positive point of view, realizing that the scars of recent years only made her stronger and more beautiful.
With this first solo album Nishe brings a balanced mix of Nu-Soul, Funk and Hip Hop. Enhanced by features of Esperanzah Denswil and Unorthadox and by the cooperation of several impressive musicians: Budy Mokoginta, Neels Smeenkens (Optimus), Shirma Rouse, Lisa Viegen (iET), Chris Grem, Arthur Flink and Yori Olijslagers. All tracks are written by Nishe with- and recorded by Budy Mokoginta, who also took the production of the album on his behalf.
