Together with our friends of Doka Volkshotel & De Kleine Komedie, we present you a new edition of KROOKS by night. Our own night event, where we will showcase new, creative talent around KROOKS label.
For this edition of KROOKS by night we present you with the new 'Brightly Dark' EP release by Hugo Oak at KROOKS label. The voice of Hugo Oak is reminiscent of an old soul singer, his work evokes the sounds of James Blake or Bon Iver and a track like Phonograph makes you think he is a Berlin raver! His compositions are free and stubborn, the recordings have a remarkably pure and raw feeling around them. We consider his music hi-level. Like all our releases on KROOKS, it's a fusion & inspiration within different styles and genres. It's slow and deep but also punchy and uplifting. Oak uses live a lot of broken beats but can easily turn it around to 4/4 beats that can be played in a DJ set. We were there when all the tracks were only one-minute drafts, when Oak had a writer's block and climbed out of it, when he decided to name himself OAK after his grandpa died, and we were there when he graduated from the pop academy and felt the freedom to finish this EP.
De Kleine Komedie will present a curated pick from their talent roster that will inspire an ever changing generation through laughter. Hugo Oak will be supported by North Sea Jazz resident The Groove Supplier and our own Josh Dupree. Dance dance dance!
