When you’re partying hard with thousands of other people to celebrate the freedom and equality that are the essential principles of HOLI, when all your troubles disappear and you let go of all your burdens, then you’re with us – at HOLI GAUDY. After eight successful Holi Festivals last year, we’re ready to use our experience and confidence to create something really big, in over 30 European cities. The “EUROPE’S BIG HOLI – FESTIVAL TOUR 2014".
THE TOUR
The tour begins on 1 May, and will stop in major cities like Berlin, Stuttgart, Mannheim and Frankfurt. On our way from the northernmost festival in Copenhagen (Denmark) to Bolzano (Italy), we’ll be in a large number of cities to celebrate with you. There will also be HOLI GAUDY Festivals in the Netherlands and Switzerland, e.g. in The Hague and Zurich.

THE NAME
Holi comes from India, and is most frequently celebrated in the spring in the northern parts of that huge country. It is also called ‘Phagwah’ or ‘Dol Yatra’. People throw colourful powder (known as ‘Gulal’) or coloured water at each other. It is one of the oldest and certainly the most (literally!) colourful festival in the world. On this day, all people are equal. Even caste has no place on this day in India; neither do sex or status. In earlier times, the powder was made from medicinal blossoms, roots and herbs; it is still traditionally blessed today. If you want to be there yourself, the upcoming dates in India are 17.03.2014 and 06.03.2015.
Gaudy is an old-fashioned English word meaning (tastelessly) colourful or excessively decorated.
ADMISSION
Attendees must be at least sixteen years old. Anyone who wants to take part is welcome, whether they’re young or young at heart.
