They say that fortune favours the brave. For Eric Prydz, a bold musical agenda and an unrivalled ability to combine commercial success (3 times Top 2 UK hit singles) with underground notoriety (fastest selling release ever one cult download store Beatport) has allowed him to achieve worldwide recognition with his integrity intact.
Eric was the only artist ever to be given the “go ahead” to sample Pink Floyd and with this, Prydz released the Grammy nominated ‘Proper Education’, based on Floyd’s “Another Brick in The Wall”.
He continued showing the world his capabilities by creating ‘Pjanoo’ in 2008. It was Beatport’s fastest selling release, Zane Lowe’s championed instrumental track, Pete Tong’s ‘Record Of The Week’ four (4!) times and was playlisted by the station seven weeks upfront of its release. It should not surprise you that it hit No. 2 in the charts that summer.
It was important for Eric to step back after his previous successes and release music without schedules and pressure. Ultimately he wanted to control his own image & destiny, something extremely important to him and his career:
his three highly respected labels whose releases are in feverish demand. They are consistently selling huge quantities of vinyl, which is truly incredible in the markets current climate. The labels are arguably proving to be the most successful and forward thinking imprints currently existing.
The ethos behind the labels was truly underground, scarcely any promotion, no press intrusion and true label/design identity… a formula which has proven massively successful!
