AUDIO CULTURE
There’s every chance you have heard of Audio Culture, one of Amsterdam’s most boundary defying nights. A night of music which can loosely be defined as ‘UK funkyhouse’. On Saturday the 7th of August Audio Culture will transform Club Up, in cooperation with FewKidsOnTheBlock, into a mekka for real Global Bass enthusiasts.
Audio Culture hosted a monthly night at Twstd over the past four years. Sadly Twstd closed its doors, forcing Audio Culture to look for a new spiritual home. Seeing this as a chance to step it up, Audio Culture are back, with a new night at one of Amsterdam’s favourite venues: Club Up. Audio Culture and event organisation FewKidsOnTheBlock put their efforts together to take this edition to the next level.
Our first special guest is DOC DANEEKA from Wales’ Gold Coast, Swansea. The Doc (a.k.a. Mial Watkins) originally sought to make drum & bass, but he began dabbling in trip-hop and eventually wound up producing highly percussive house music, rich in sexy, tropical drums and syncopated rhythms. He describes it as “basement house”, though we like to refer to it as some of the best house music around. Daneeka’s released killer tracks for labels like Fabric and Ramp and remixed for the likes of Delphic, Digital Mystikz and Sekta. He also runs his own label – Ten Thousand Yen, which delivers his own music, alongside releases from Julio Bashmore and many more.
Our second guest is no stranger to Amsterdam, having lived here for many years before moving back to Ireland. MICKY (a.k.a. Pressure) has been a guest of Audio Culture many times and is also an ex-resident of Amsterdam’s Ichi One and Eindhoven’s famous Red Zone nights alongside Martyn and Nymfo. He is also the head honcho of his own label – Naked Lunch, which has put out music by the likes of Instra:mental, TRG, Breakage, Jus Wan and Scuba. Not only a prolific A&R man, Micky is also an exceptional DJ.
Warming you up will be your trusty Audio Culture DJs, playing the best of everything with a bass line. All in all, the first edition of Audio Culture at Up promises to be something special. We hope to see you all down there to experience it.
